Nanotechnology and Health Implications

Imagine waking up one morning and feeling very sick. The cold has been spreading at school and now you have it. The adenovirus (cold virus) is replicating it self in your body and affecting the mucous membranes of the nose and throat. You want to stay home, but there is a giant biology test and you cannot afford to miss it. Luckily you have a batch of nanorobots programmed to track and destroy the adenovirus. After getting dressed you grab the puffer from the cupboard and inhale one dose. In that breath trillions of nanorobots travel into your upper respiratory tract. They have protein antigens, which are complimentary to the receptors of cells infected by the adenovirus. This allows them to enter the infected host cells, where they then enter the nucleus, identify viral DNA and then cut it out, returning the cell to pristine condition. While this may seem a little farfetched, the technologies that will usher humanity into the age of nanorobotics are well on their way.
